Researchers from Oregon have identified 27 climate processes that will accelerate global temperature rise in the near term.

Most climatologists do not doubt the reality of global warming and that humanity is approaching the point of no return. If the global temperature rise exceeds 1.5 degrees Celsius, the Earth’s climate will change radically and irreversibly. Climate warming triggers climate processes that accelerate it further. For example, as a result of warming, permafrost is melting, which leads to the release of methane, one of the greenhouse gases that accelerate the increase in temperature.

A new study has examined how the rate of global temperature rise will be affected by various climate events: They will accelerate, limit, or, in that sense, neutralize global warming. In addition to the melting of permafrost, forest and peat fires, droughts, the death of plants from pests and many other non-anthropogenic factors came into the field of view of scientists. It turns out that 27 climate events will accelerate warming. The other seven will be neutral with respect to the rise in temperatures, and seven will limit warming.

Especially the shrinking of the sea ice area, the increase in the amount of precipitation in the Sahara Desert and the shrinkage of its area due to the green vegetation will limit the increase in the global temperature.
