Google Meet just got a new feature on Tuesday (21) for those who use the background during meetings and video calls. The application now has a 360-degree background feature with different landscapes for the user’s choice.

Google Meets with more than 3 people will be limited to 1 hour

The background uses the device’s gyroscope to create a dynamic, more immersive experience that moves as the user using the background moves. 360° background options include beach and temple. You can now join a video call as if you were at the beach and the background will move according to your movements. This feature is available on Android and iOS mobile devices for any user as long as they have a Google account.

Available to all users, all you need is a Google account

The feature is available to all users with a Google account. Even though it’s a Google Workspace tool, it’s not only available for corporate accounts. This update is the latest in a series of Google Meet improvements that also include subtitles in video calls.

With the rise of competing platforms like Zoom, big tech companies are investing in new technologies to improve the user experience and keep their solution competitive. Video conferencing has been revolutionized in recent years as it has become widely needed during the Covid-19 pandemic. So many people have started using apps like Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom in their daily lives, whether it’s connecting with people, attending meetings, or just working. It’s even better when updates like this for 360º background reach all users, not just those who subscribe to the platform or pay for more expensive plans.
