The GIGABYTE AORUS Gen5 SSD is now available in the US retail channel, confirming that a new generation of SSDs should finally arrive on the market very soon, another leap in performance in client storage by leveraging interface features that are the most widely used in the PC industry . advanced internal PCIe 5.0.

We already knew about the GIGABYTE AORUS Gen5 SSD from its presentation at CES. use the format M.2-2280 which becomes the main and almost unique SSD due to its great advantages thanks to its compact dimensions that allow its installation on desktops and laptops.

The GIGABYTE drive combines a specially designed Phison E26 controller for these Gen5s with three-layer 3D NAND flash memory and additional DDR4 cache to increase performance when accessing the most frequently used data. It has support for the latest version of the NVMe protocol, which makes them self-starting and achieving data transfer 10 GB/s sequential read and 9.5 GB/s write.

Another outstanding aspect of this AORUS Gen5 10000 SSD is its cooling. It goes o.a cooler AORUS Xtreme Thermal Guard which the company already used to cool the chipsets of its most advanced motherboards. It’s a massive size for an SSD, with twin aluminum fins held together by a pair of heat pipes. And it looks like it will come in handy for peak performance as these drives get pretty hot.

The manufacturer announced two versions for the launch of this series according to the storage capacity: 1 and 2 TB. The one with the largest capacity has already appeared on retailers like Amazon and Newegg with a starting price €339.99. , five-year warranty and durability – at least – 1,400 Tbytes written.

That $0.17 per GB is quite a bit higher than current Gen4 SSDs. This is common at the launch of new generations and in the first stages of distribution of a new product. GIGABYTE has not yet announced an official price and it can be expected that the prices will drop as other manufacturers (WD, Samsung, Kingston, Kioxia…) release their versions. The new Gen5 shouldn’t take too long to hit the retail channel.
