Here comes AYA Neo Air Plus, the ultimate price competition for the Steam Deck

The Chinese manufacturer AYANEO specializes in handheld computers, announced the launch AYA Neo Air Plus, designed specifically for compete on price with Valve’s Steam Deck largely responsible for reviving the portable console segment.

AYA Neo Air Plus offers a screen 6 inches diagonally and with native FHD resolution. The AYA Neo Air Plus has the typical controls we’d find in a game controller, but paired with a smartphone-sized machine. Another of its advantages is the ability to run different operating systems. AYA Neo OS based on Linux, Windows and also the Steam OS of the Valve console itself, with which it intends to compete.

AYA Neo Air Plus, versions and prices

AYANEO has generally bet on AMD hardware in almost its entire catalog and this model will be no different, even though the manufacturer also offers an Intel version and will launch the console in three different hardware configurations:

  • AMD Ryzen 7 6800U “Renoir”.
  • AMD Ryzen 5 7520U “Mendocino”.
  • Intel Core i3-1215U “Alder Lake-U”.

The first will be the cheapest of the series, the alternative will be provided by Intel mentioned with the twelfth generation of Core processors, and we believe that it will also be the most expensive.

However, we like the middle one the most, the most balanced in the price/performance ratio. It uses the ‘Mendocino’ series, some APUs launched last spring aimed at powering high-power notebooks (or mini-PCs). They include the CPU, GPU and memory controller in the same package and are manufactured by TSMC on a modern 6nm process node. Recall that AMD decided to use the ZEN2 architecture and not the new ZEN3 for reasons of cost and consumption, but at the same time improved the graphics part by integrated with the RDNA2 architecture.

The selected processor is Ryzen 5 7520U. With 4 cores and 8 threads, clocked at up to 4.3GHz and Radeon 610M graphics, it should be enough for this type of machine, and it’s actually the same type of chip that Valve uses for its own “Aerith” SoC. » from Steam Deck.

The AYA Neo Air Plus will be available on the manufacturer’s website on February 28. We will have to wait for the exact prices
