The 16-year-old schoolboy who this Wednesday fatally stabbed his Spanish teacher at a Catholic school in French Basque Paris admitted to investigators that he “heard a voice” that “asked him to do evil” and that he ordered him to “commit murder.” . .

Bayonne prosecutor Jérôme Bourrier, who is in charge of the investigation, said this Thursday that the young man was under psychiatric supervision and taking antidepressants, as he was harassed at a previous educational center, and in October 2022 he tried to commit suicide by taking the medication.

But he does not have any psychological illness to explain the crime committed at the Santo Tomas de Aquino school in San Juan de Luz, for which reason the prosecutor will demand that he be kept in custody on charges of “premeditated murder.”

The prosecutor found that the day before the young man had quarreled with another student, and confessed to the investigators that he wanted to commit a crime in his presence, “in order to punish him.”

In addition, he claimed that he had some dislike for the Spanish teacher, because in this subject his grades were not as good as in others.

The prosecutor pointed out that the defendant took a kitchen knife with an 18 cm blade from his father’s house last Tuesday. The next day, in the middle of Spanish class, around 9:45 am, he got up with a knife wrapped in kitchen paper, locked the classroom door, and addressed the teacher at the blackboard.

There, he delivered a single blow to him, “quickly, smoothly, unceremoniously”, from bottom to top, resulting in a 14 cm wound that ruptured his aorta, affected his right lung and perforated his sternum, the injury that caused his death.

The rest of the class fled in horror, and the dramatist took refuge in a nearby classroom, where two other teachers asked him to drop his weapons, which he did before reassuring, “I ruined my life, it’s over.”

Bourrier assured that there is no reason to believe that this student, who is described by witnesses as “smart, hardworking and lonely” with problems in social relations, committed such an act.

The murder caused great emotion in the Basque-French city, as well as in the entire French educational community, which, at the request of the Minister of Education, Pape Ndiaye, observes a moment of silence in all schools today.

The teacher, who is in her early 50s, was “very much appreciated by colleagues and students,” the prosecutor added.

Bourrier added that the investigation was ongoing and that the prime suspect was being questioned by Bayonne agents investigating.
