3D printing technology has enabled Wilson engineers to create a basketball with a unique hexagonal design that promises to revolutionize the sport. It is expected that the launch of the product on the market will take place in the near future.
baptism Wilson airless prototype, the product is unique in its category as it does not require inflation. To replicate the feel of a traditional basketball, the design team used research-grade materials and created a porous structure with small hexagonal holes to allow outside air to pass freely.
In addition, the traditional eight-panel stitching structure has been retained to maintain the shape of the ball. Designed by the same team as the official NBA ball, Wilson’s airless prototype promises to be a game-changer in the world of basketball.
“It’s a ball unlike anything we’ve ever seen, designed to be played like the basketballs we’ve always known.“Wilson said in a statement.
It is still in testing phase.
Despite playing almost like a normal basketball in terms of weight, size and bounce, the Wilson Airless is still at the prototype stage. In an official statement, the company said there is still a lot of work to be done before the ball is ready for use on courts around the world.
There are currently no plans to replace the official game ball. Wilson is hard at work perfecting the prototype and ensuring that the new technology meets the high standards required by professional and amateur basketball players. Take a look at her throw during the NBA Slam Dunk Contest:
