Ubisoft closes servers and leaves 91 games of its games without online functions

Seemingly without any prior notice, Ubisoft has just announced that it has begun turn off some online services for many of their classic games such as Just Dance, Far Cry or Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, among many others, with an overall list that would currently reach up to 91 titles on various platforms (the full list is available in the official blog post).

This is not a sudden event, but a company I would shut down all these servers over the past year. According to information shared from Kotak, the developer seems to have focused exclusively on closing down platforms and services that are not in use, such as the now defunct OnLive streaming service (from 2015) or consoles such as the PS2.

Assassins Creed Brotherhood closes online multiplayer servers

Usually the vast majority of games were old enough and they almost no longer had an online player base, while others blocked the titles belonged to the platforms and consoles of previous generations like PS3, Xbox 360 or Wii. Although we have also lost support for some games available on the PC, a platform that rather provides us with a small dose of nostalgia where online support for the first two Far Cry games would be lost. Although surprisingly, Ubisoft has removed support for some songs from newer Just Dance games, which will now not have access to songs from previous titles from Just Dance 2014 onwards.

Other classics you might miss include Beyond Good & Evil, the original Ghost Recon, various Rainbow Six games, older Settlers titles, and some Splinter Cell releases (including Chaos Theory and Conviction). And the point is that all those games that used Ubisoft Connect will not allow us to win units now and we will not be able to unlock or access content on any platform.

Thus, the great dissatisfaction of users seems to be due to another direct consequence of this action, as any achievements or trophies related to the multiplayer modes in these games, it will now be completely impossible to obtain. This means that it is very possible that the number of affected users is minimal and they can still enjoy the offline part of all these games.
