US tightens sanctions against Russia a year after the war

The United States deplored this Friday the year of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and responded by imposing sanctions on more than 50 high-ranking Russian officials.including cabinet ministers and dozens of governors and heads of regions.

The State Department said it was also imposing sanctions on dozens of other Russian officials, organizations and visa restrictions more than 1200 military personnel.

These include high-ranking officials in the government of Russian President Vladimir Putin, such as Olga Skabeeva, a leading state television propagandist, and Oleg Romanenko, appointed to oversee Ukrainian Zaporozhye NPP after being captured by Russian troops.

The White House also announced this. will impose sanctions on 200 individuals and legal entitiesincluding both Russian and third countries from Europe, Asia and the Middle East that support Russia’s military actions.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, announced yesterday Thursday that the measures would be aimed at “key industries that bring income to Putin”: additional Russian banks, the Russian defense industry, and third-country entities trying to evade US sanctions.

All sanctions were based on a decree allowing “sanctions against certain types of harmful foreign activities” Russian government, a US official said.

U.S. authorities said that as part of the sanctions, any U.S. property owned by individuals designated or controlled on their behalf by a U.S. citizen has been blocked.

In addition, the US Department of Commerce has indicated that it will implement various export controls on approximately 90 Russian and other companies, including China, for evading sanctions.

President Joe Biden will also sign executive orders Friday to raise tariffs on more than 100 Russian metals, minerals and chemicals.
