AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D: performance and comparison with Intel Core i9-13900K

The Ryzen 9 7950X3D hasn’t hit the market yet, but thanks to the leak of AMD’s official overview, we’ve been able to see a lot of performance data. All that data they are official since they come from AMD itself, so they are not an estimate or a rumor, they are the result of Sunnyvale’s own tests.

The performance data is divided into two large groups those for synthetic performance and professional applications, which are tests where large amounts of L3 cache usually have little or no impact, and those for gaming performance, which is where that extra cache usually makes a difference, though not always. This is a topic that I have already told you on several occasions and that we must take into account when evaluating this type of processor.

Before we get into the performance data, let’s take a look at the Ryzen 9 7950X3D Specifications:

  • Zen Architecture 4.
  • Made on TSMC’s 5nm node.
  • 16 cores and 32 threads at 4.2 GHz-5.7 GHz, normal and turbo mode.
  • 16 MB L2 cache.
  • 128 MB L3 cache.
  • TDP 120W.
  • Socket AM5.
  • Compatible with DDR5.

Ryzen 9 7950X performance: 6% faster than Intel Core i9-13900K

The leaked information confirms that on average al Ryzen 9 7950X3D is 6% faster than Intel Core i9-13900K in games when using the GeForce RTX 4090 and 5.6% more powerful when using the Radeon RX 7900 XTX. It is important to note that the tests were carried out at 1080p for high CPU dependency generationand that those differences will be significantly reduced in 1440p and practically non-existent in 4K.

Ryzen 9 7950X3D gaming performance

Ryzen 9 7950X3D wins especially clearly in games like Horizon Zero Dawn, where it achieves 289 FPS compared to 228 for the Intel Core i9-13900K, as well as others like F1 2021, Rainbow Six Siege and Guardians of the Galaxy, but loses in titles like CS:GO, Cyberpunk 2077 and Far Cry 6 and ties to Watch Dogs Legion.

In a synthetic version, the results They are very interesting. The Ryzen 9 7950X3D wins some tests like 7Zip and DolphineBench, but loses in Cinebench R23 (single-threaded and multi-threaded). It also loses in Geekbench 5.4.1 and Kraken Benchmark v1.1 Edge Chromium.

Price, release date and first impressions

Ryzen 9 7950X3D will be launched next February 28, and in principle it will be accompanied by Ryzen 9 7900X3D and Ryzen 7 7800X3D. It will be compatible with all current AM5 motherboards, but a BIOS update will be required to use it, so keep that in mind.

We don’t know the retail price it will have in Spain, but AMD confirmed during the official presentation event to introduce the Ryzen 7000X3D that the Ryzen 9 7950X3D will have a price in the United States. $699, tax not includedso it should be around in Spain 800 euros including VAT.

Would it be an interesting option for that price? Well no, especially considering the slight difference in performance with the Intel Core i9-13900K beating it in some cases and its price which hovers around 649 euros at most retailers.

I think it’s pretty clear that this leak it defied expectations significantly that the Ryzen 7000X3D generated and that its performance is ultimately too close to Intel Core Gen13 and at resolutions higher than 1080p the difference between them will be almost zero, as I told you before. I don’t think many people buy a Ryzen 9 7950X3D and a GeForce RTX 4090 for 1080p gaming, so the story speaks for itself.
