Gmail is one of the main props on which the Google empire rests. She has been present in our lives for almost 19 years the most used email service in the world as of 2012, and there are more than enough reasons, with the large capacity of free accounts, the efficiency of the service and its applications, and its integration with the rest of the search engine services. It is, and has been suspected since its inception, a success story.
In part, this is due to the constant development of the service and everything associated with it. Admittedly, there are sometimes missteps, with Inbox by Gmail, an app for Android and iOS that debuted in 2014 and was discontinued in 2019, after five years of coexistence with the service’s main app, in an experiment that was never quite clearly. However, there are far more right decisions than mistakes in his history.
from his side, foldable phones, while still very small, aim to continue gaining a presence in the coming yearsand every time we see more manufacturers being encouraged to explore this growing and interesting market. So far we can confirm that Samsung has been the leading voice, but all indications are that in the medium term it will have to share an increasingly larger piece of the pie with many other manufacturers.
As we can read on the Google Workspace blog, those from the search engine decided to respond to this market trend and subsequently redesigned the Gmail interface for Fold smartphones. With this new design, the view is now split into two panels, offering a dual-screen experience that’s much more convenient than simply placing all of your app content on a wider screen.
As you can see in the image, when you open the Gmail client va folding, the view is divided into a panel that occupies the left part of the screen, in which we see the inbox or the folder that we selected, while the panel on the right shows us the content of the message that we selected on the left. I don’t know how you’ll feel about it, but I personally find it much more efficient to use the dual screen of smartphones with this form factor.
Moreover, it is interesting that Google is taking this step with its mail client, as it reminds us of the thousands of rumors that have been circulating in recent years about the company’s plans to launch the Google Pixel Fold. That they started adapting their applications to this format right now, and not until the first smartphones of this type arrived, This could be a sign that the foldable Pixel is closer than we thought.
