Sony’s latest State of Play didn’t quite live up to the expectations it raised, mainly due to a significant lack of “first party” (exclusive) games for the PS5, as well as the tepid debut of the PSVR2. However, it appears to be there is a good reason explains it all, and according to new information, Sony preferred to keep important announcements bigger events which will take place before the E3 celebration.
It is believed that the event before E3 PS5 entry in its second phase. Don’t worry, your console won’t change shape or color when entering the second phase. Jokes aside, the information we have says that the developers were not ready to show what they were doing, and therefore the most important announcements were delayed. We don’t have specific dates, but since we’re talking about an event before E3, it’s clear that it has to take place by June.
Rumors also say that the sobriety of the last state of the game was motivated by all the controversy surrounding the purchase of Activision Blizzard from Microsoft, something that frankly makes sense, especially after seeing the huge effort that Sony is making to shut down said operation and that they have reached the point where the Japanese company is trying to show itself as the underdog in the game console sector and video games, even though it’s actually the other way around.
Jeff Grubb, the insider who provided this information, assures that Sony can show interesting things, but that they had to postpone them and in the end they preferred to group them together to create “massive” presentation this will make the PS5 enter the second phase. The most reasonable interpretation we can make from this insider’s words is that Sony will announce new exclusive triple A “first party” games for said console, which are “highly anticipated” and that would pass for new installments of well-known franchises.
Keep in mind that when we talk about the second phase we don’t mean new hardware, but a bigger rollout of PS5 exclusive games that in theory it should make better use of the hardware of this new console and that in principle it should also serve to give itself more distance on a technical level compared to the previous generation of consoles. We don’t have any specific names yet, but I think it’s possible that Sony will come out with a new The Last of Us, in fact, it would be perfect timing given the huge success of the series.
