A TECHNOone of the Chinese smartphone manufacturers, announced the launch of an innovative technology in Mobile World Congress (MVK) in 2023. The system called Chameleon coloring technologyis an innovation that allows users to choose from 1600 different colors for the back of their phone. This unique technology gives consumers a new personalized way to express their individuality by allowing them to choose the perfect color to match their personal style.

The revolutionary technology has allowed users to change the color of the back of their device up to 100 times a day for almost 55 years thanks to Chameleon Coloring. But make no mistake: this innovation is not just a screen on the back of the phone. According to TECNO, the secret to the color change lies in the use of a sub-micrometer prism that scatters light on impact and can be modified to change the color seen by the user.

With the ability to change color in an incredible 0.03 seconds, the material can be changed up to two million times before it fails. In addition, its energy consumption is negligible: 100 color changes per day take up as much energy as watching a 5-minute video.

TECNO focuses on personalization

It is worth remembering that this is not the first time TECNO has relied on customization. The Tecno Camon 19 Pro Mondrian Edition phone launched in 2022 offers a color change on the back. However, it was a different technology than what is now disclosed. This system required UV radiation and was not user controlled, so this new technology is much better.

Chameleon Coloring Technology is not yet available for smartphones or prototypes, at least not yet. It is possible that we will see this innovation in a future model from TECNO, perhaps already this year.
