While attending Mobile World Congress, TCL unveiled a series of new devices from the TCL 40 lineup, bringing affordable 5G technology to consumers in Asia and Europe.. One of the highlights is the TCL 40XE, which starts at $170 and is the cheapest phone with this technology available from the manufacturer.
TCL 40X, TCL 40XE and TCL 40XL were officially presented by the manufacturer over the weekend. Earlier this year, the company already introduced the 40SE, 408 and 403 models. However, they all had 5G technology, resulting in a small update to the new devices a few weeks ago.
Three new models introduced by TCL
TCL 40 X: powerful and with next generation connectivity
While the TCL 40 X 5G is a bit more expensive than the cheapest device the company has listed, it does offer better camera hardware. The device has a rear camera with a 50 MP sensor and two auxiliary cameras with a resolution of only 2 MP. It’s available for $200, around R$1,000 at current prices.
The TCL 40 X 5G features a 6.56-inch HD+ (20:9) screen with a 90Hz refresh rate and a 180Hz touch sampling rate. The 8-megapixel front-facing camera offers a face unlock feature, while the fingerprint scanner on the side of the device offers another secure unlock option.
Finally, the newly unveiled device is powered by the Dimensity 700 chipset, the TCL 40 X offers 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage (expandable up to 1TB via microSD slot). The device’s 5G modem promises downlink speeds of up to 2.77 Gbps and supports a new type of VoNR voice call. The smartphone is powered by a 5000 mAh battery.
TCL 40 XE: cheaper with 5G technology
The cheapest device presented by the manufacturer, the TCL 40 XE 5G is a more affordable option compared to the TCL 40 X. It is the cheapest TCL 5G phone to date at just $170. The device is powered by the same Dimensity 700 chipset as the TCL 40 X and has an identical 4/64GB memory configuration with support for a microSD slot.
It also has a main rear camera with a 13MP sensor, while a pair of secondary cameras remain at 2MP each. The selfie camera has also remained the same, with an 8MP sensor. The security of the device is ensured by a side-mounted fingerprint reader or face unlock, just like the aforementioned version.
Continuation after commercial
The TCL 40 XE 5G screen is the same as last year’s TCL 30 XE: 6.56-inch HD+ screen with 90Hz refresh rate and 180Hz touch sampling rate. One of the main improvements of the new model is the 5000 mAh battery, which is 500 mAh more than its predecessor.
TCL 40 XL: An option for those who don’t want 5G
Finally, the latest model introduced by TCL is the TCL 40 XL. As its name suggests, compared to other devices, it does not have the latest technology. This is because the manufacturer has chosen to offer a larger screen and more complete mobile phone at an affordable price, even if it has ditched 5G connectivity.
The TCL 40 XL has a 6.75-inch screen, but the resolution remains HD+ and the refresh rate is 60Hz. The rear camera is triple, with 50+2+2MP sensors, while the front camera is 8MP with a notch. Compared to the previous model, the 5MP ultra-wide-angle camera has been removed.
The memory on the TCL 20 XL is 128GB, expandable up to 512GB via microSD cards. RAM remains at 4GB and the phone is powered by Helio G37, a 12nm chip with eight Cortex-A53 cores, and a PowerVR GE8320. Although it’s not 5G, performance is similar to the 40 SE.
The battery does not keep up with the larger screen size and therefore has the same 5000 mAh capacity as the X/XE. In addition, security features have been added to this model, such as face unlock and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. The device retails for $170, the same price as the TCL 40 XE 5G.
TCL announces ION X smartphone; the base model has a MediaTek chip and 3GB of RAM A device available in the US costs the equivalent of less than R$610.
