Google Cloud is launching three new telecom products that together form a cloud solution for Communication Service Providers (CSPs).
The Google Distributed Cloud Edge is getting an update to enable CSPs to deploy a cloud-native network in a hybrid cloud environment. It allows service providers to extend Google Cloud infrastructure to the very edge of their Radio Access Network (RAN) as well as into the core of their 5G networks.
Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, emphasized during the Mobile World Congress announcement that CSPs are under pressure today to quickly adopt next-generation networks. In his opinion, in order to keep the associated (operating) costs under control, one must switch to cloud-native principles within the network architecture.
“It accelerates subscriber growth through holistic data management capabilities. This enables CSPs to bridge the connectivity gap between today and tomorrow.”
Faster adoption through automation
According to Google Cloud, there is a growing trend where CSPs are increasingly embracing cloud-native networking capabilities. However, it’s important to make good use of automation in a cloud-native environment. To achieve this, Google Cloud is introducing three new telecom products.
With Telecom Network Automation, Google Cloud is launching a service for CSPs to introduce (edge) networks faster. The cloud-native automation tool is based on Kubernetes and managed by the open-source Nephio project, which Google introduced in 2022. Available in private preview today, Telecom Network Automation aims to reduce time-to-market by offering greater interoperability between vendors and avoiding configuration errors.
Find new revenue streams
Telecom Data Fabric is the second part and generates insights into your network data to optimize performance and reliability. The service integrates Google’s BigQuery analytics service and DataPlex data mesh architecture. It also offers CSPs the ability to build AI analytics applications to support cross-domain networking and energy efficiency. This service is also now available in public preview.
Finally, there’s Telecom Subscriber Insights to help CSPs find new revenue streams. The AI-supported tool offers companies additional insights into existing data sources in a data protection-proof manner. It processes and analyzes data with algorithms and proposes actions to get more out of customers across multiple channels. The result should provide more upselling and cross-selling opportunities.
