The project was restarted with an OLED screen and a 5G modem. The iPhone SE 4 is scheduled to go into production in early 2024.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo announced earlier last year that the Apple iPhone SE 4 was scrapped. A larger OLED screen (6.1 inches) means higher production costs, which would result in a higher selling price. This puts pressure on the positioning of the iPhone SE 4: an inexpensive device (by Apple standards) without the frills of the flagship models.
Now the project seems to be taken out of the fridge after all. Production is slated for early 2024, with a worldwide release later this year. It is currently unclear whether the device will have the latest functions such as Face ID, dual rear cameras or emergency calls via satellite.
According to Kuo, unlike Qualcomm, the iPhone SE 4 will get a 5G chip from Apple in the current iPhone lineup.
It goes without saying that we should take such rumors with a hefty grain of salt. Ming Chi Kuo writes too that the iPhone SE 3 falls short of expectations and that the sales figures for the entry-level iPhone 14 models are also disappointing. Apple even had to scale back production of its cheaper devices to free up more resources for the iPhone 14 Pro models.
In this respect, it is logical that Apple is reluctant to work on the iPhone SE 4. Now we’ll have to wait for Apple to make an official announcement in 2024. Or there will be none at all, time will tell.
