The foldable smartphone market has been growing rapidly since its inception, but fell for the first time in the past quarter. According to data from DSCC (Display Supply Chain Consultants) analysts, foldable smartphone sales fell by 26% in the fourth quarter of 2022. Moreover, this is a year-on-year decline, and in the quarter the market completely collapsed by 48%!
A total of 3.1 million devices were sold during the reporting period. For the whole of 2022, 12.9 million smartphones were sold, which corresponds to an increase of 62%. So, even a bad quarter didn’t affect a very successful year overall for this market.
Despite occupying 96% of the Korean giant a year ago, Samsung continues its unconditional dominance with a share of 83%. The most popular foldable smartphone in the fourth quarter was expected to be the Galaxy Z Flip4, which took 47% of the total market. Huawei took second place and Oppo rounded out the top three.
