Dell is expanding its XPS range with a powerful new desktop computer. At the same time, the XPS laptops are updated with the latest processors from Intel.

During the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Dell is planning a major upgrade for its XPS portfolio. Both the desktop and laptop ranges are getting an update with the latest processors from Intel and the latest powerhouses from AMD’s stable.

The new Dell XPS 8960 desktop can be configured with a minimum of one Intel Core i5-13400 and a maximum of one Intel Core i9-13900K (eight P cores at 3 GHz, sixteen E cores). The memory can be configured between 8 GB RAM and 64 GB RAM, each DDR5. Graphically, Dell offers a variety of options: you can opt for almost the entire range of Nvidia RTX 30 GPUs, but also the Nvidia RTX 4080 and RTX 4090.

Do you prefer AMD? Bad luck, at least as far as the processors are concerned. Dell does not offer a configuration with Ryzen, although these CPUs are actually better suited. You can choose GPUs from AMD, from RX 6500 XT to RX 6900 XT and RX7900 XTX. Only configurations with the Nvidia RTX 40 chip are available at launch. A recommended retail price for us is still missing, but we have already been shown a direct price for the USA: 2,799 US dollars.

The XPS 15 and the XPS 17 also get a new interior. Once again, Dell goes exclusively to Intel. Both laptops can be configured with up to an Intel Core i9-13700H (six P cores, eight E cores). Neither Intel nor Dell share a base clock frequency for the chip, so one can speculate about the performance and, above all, the added value of the powerful Core i9 compared to models with a Core i7 or Core i5.

The laptop is also equipped with 6 GB up to a maximum of 64 GB DDR5 RAM and a PCIe SSD (up to 4 TB). Graphically, there is no AMD to be found on these laptops either. The XPS 15 comes with Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050, 4060, 4070 or Intel Arc A370M. The XPS 15 is not configurable with the Intel Arc GPU, but has room for a mobile Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080.

price and availability

Thunderbolt 4 draws a presence across the entire line-up. The screen is optionally touch-sensitive and comes with a 4K or FHD panel. The XPS 15 is available with OLED. The Dell XPS 15 and XPS 17 will be available in early March. For this, too, we only know dollar prices. The XPS 15 is priced at $2,949 with a Core i9, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, and RTX 4070. The XPS 17 is $3,749 with the same configuration.
