More than 10,000 Starlink terminals are currently operating throughout Ukraine.
According to Ukrinform, this was announced by the Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
“We have more than 10,000 terminals across Ukraine. Today they all work for free for teams and facilities where they are located,” said the Deputy Prime Minister.
“We have more than 10,000 terminals across Ukraine. Today they all work for free for teams and facilities where they are located,” said the Deputy Prime Minister.
According to Fedorov, for some time the terminals will be offered free of charge, after which the Ministry of Finance will decide to pay.
The head of the ministry explained that Starlink is very similar in operation to a powerful router, and the signal distribution area depends on the openness of buildings and areas. Fedorov added that the terminals are usually used in the field where they operate normally for several hundred meters.
He noted that the needs of the critical infrastructure and medical field are currently being met. Also, after the evacuation of Kyiv and Chernihiv oblasts, new needs arose due to problems with fixed internet and mobile towers. In particular, many providers are now supported by Starlink to keep all their networks working. Many small settlements and villages use it to at least have a connection.
“Therefore, we need more terminals as the war continues. I think there are thousands more in addition to what we have. Today, communication is crucial for the smooth functioning of government agencies and critical infrastructure,” said Fedorov.
As Ukrinform reported, Starlink Ukraine was registered in Ukraine on April 27 as SpaceX’s representative office.
Earlier, SpaceX founder Elon Musk had accepted a request from the Minister of Digital Transformation, Mikhail Fedorov, to provide Ukraine with Starlink stations and satellite internet access.
Starlink is a SpaceX project that provides satellite access to broadband internet. The speed of this type of Internet is up to 1 Gbps for each subscriber, and you can use it anywhere in the world.
