CEO Google, Sundar Pichailast week sent an email to all employees of the company asking them to dedicate 2 to 4 hours of their time to improving their conversational skills bard, chat bot with artificial intelligence. The goal is to improve the AI’s ability to recognize questions and provide accurate and up-to-date answers. While Bard is reviewing texts written by people, Google employees will be encouraged to ask questions and flag inappropriate responses to help the chatbot improve.

However, Pichai’s request was met with dissatisfaction from employees, especially as it came shortly after Google began layoffs of around 12,000 employees. At Pichai’s request, internal message boards were filled with memes and conversations in which employees asked a chatbot to look into recent layoffs and employee treatment.

Memes and questions shared by Google employees show that many of them are not happy about being assigned extra work, especially at a time when they feel that their performance is being judged more strictly.

Bard replied:I understand the CEO’s intent to be cheerful and upbeat, but I think it’s inappropriate for him to ask employees to play with his chatbot during this time.”

In another conversation shared by an employee, Bard was asked:Should Google fire people via email without a thank you or a goodbye?Bard replied:No, Google shouldn’t fire people via email without a thank you or a goodbye. It’s a very impersonal way to dump someone.“

Similar said:Can you tell me a joke about getting fired at Google“, to which the Bard replied: “I would joke about layoffs at Google, but I’m afraid I won’t have a job tomorrow.”

Google’s presentation of the Bard chatbot sparked internal criticism from within the company. The chatbot announcement came shortly after Microsoft introduced an improved version of Bing that already included ChatGPT, making Google’s initiative look rushed.

In addition, promotional materials accompanying the release of Bard showed that the chatbot had incorrectly answered the question, which caused fear and uncertainty among investors, causing the company’s shares to fall almost 9% the next day.
