Like other operating systems, Windows 11 comes with a lot of pre-installed software. Michael Niehaus published an interesting article on his website Oofhours about how much standard programs in Windows 11 really take.
We managed to get a list of all Michael’s programs installed on the system through PowerShell using the command Get-AppxProvisionedPackage -online | Out-GridView”. Some of them (relevant for Windows 11 21H2) are shown in the screenshot above. On it you can see the names of programs, their version and installation location.
The largest of the pre-installed applications was Microsoft Teams, taking up about 91 MB. However, Michael noted that some programs “weigh” too little. For example, the Microsoft Store Purchase allegedly takes up only 11 KB. A detailed study of the system showed that the program is actually divided into two folders, the total volume of which is 37 MB.
After doing all the necessary calculations, Michael got a value of approximately 1.6 GB – this is how much all the standard programs in Windows 11 take up. So that everyone could conduct a similar investigation on their own, he left all the PowerShell commands.
