A Microsoft announced today that it is releasing an update to its app Phone link, which will give Windows users access to Apple’s iMessage. Starting this Tuesday (28), a preview of the updated app will be available for testing exclusively by Windows Insiders. With the update, iPhone users will be able to connect their device to a Windows laptop or PC and send and receive messages via iMessage, make and receive calls, and view their phone notifications right on iPhone. Windows 11.

Microsoft announces Windows 11 update with several new features
The list includes Bing integration with AI capabilities, a new tabbed Notepad app, and more.
The functionality uses Bluetooth technology to connect Windows devices to iPhone and allows you to send messages through the Messages app (iMessage) directly from your PC. However, the novelty has several significant limitations. Users will not be able to send photos in messages or participate in group conversations via Phone Link. In addition, the conversations will be displayed in a simplified way on the PC screen, as shown in the app screenshot.
Another point is that only messages sent or received via Phone Link will be displayed, without taking into account the full history of messages in conversations. This restriction is imposed by Microsoft, which, in turn, does not use blue or green notifications in the application, as it is not able to distinguish between a standard text message and one sent via iMessage.

Photo integration
Despite the lack of photo integration in Phone Link, Microsoft is already considering integrating iCloud Photos directly into the Windows 11 Photos app. It is possible that this feature will be extended to Phone Link in the future.
For those who want to test the new Phone Link support for iOS, Microsoft will make this functionality available to Windows Insiders in the Dev, Beta, and Release Preview channels. While the company began testing this week with a “small percentage” of testers, it intends to expand the preview’s availability to more insiders over time based on the feedback it received from the first group. The Microsoft Windows team announced this on their official blog.
