Several power failures in Argentina caused this Wednesday extensive blackout this affects several areas of the country, including Buenos Aires.
According to sources from the Ministry of Energy, “several failures were recorded in the interconnected system” and, “as a reason for the above, various generating plants came out,” including the Atucha-1 nuclear power plant and the Puerto Central thermal generator.
“Work is being carried out promptly to resolve this issue,” the Energy Ministry said.
According to data from the wholesale electricity market management company (Cammesa), electricity demand has collapsed since 16:00 local time almost across the country, albeit with an uneven impact.
For its part, Transener, a high-voltage power transmission company, said the result was a fire in a field.
Transener said it had implemented the contingency plan with Cammesa and started work to restore supplies.
Interruptions were reported in commuter trains in Buenos Aires and in the metropolitan metro due to power outages. EFE
