The Australian division of BAE Systems unveiled its new Strix vertical take-off and landing unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) at the Avalon Air Show. This was reported by Breaking Defense.

The drone is designed for reconnaissance and attacks. Also, the Strix can become the leader of combat helicopters. The flight range of the device, which can be transported in a standard cargo container, is 800 km. The unarmed drone weighs 650 kilograms.

The Strix will be able to carry AGM-114 Hellfire, Brimstone and AGM-179 Joint Air-to-Ground Missile (JAGM) air-to-ground missiles. The device’s arsenal will also include Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) II missiles and promising Razer ammunition. A drone model was shown at the air show. The Strix may make its maiden flight in late 2023, and the drone will enter service in 2026.
