Congressman Samuel Cogolati (Ecolo) was the target of a cyber attack from China. This was announced by the French-speaking Greens on Wednesday. Cogolati wants our country to study the scale of Chinese cyber attacks on our country.

The Green MP has been in Beijing’s sights for some time. His fight for recognition of, among other things, the mistreatment of the Uyghurs was a thorn in China’s side. “If the Communist Party thinks they are intimidating us in this way, they are wrong,” Ecolo said. “We will continue to run the gauntlet until the camps of shame are closed.”

Cogolati also wants Belgium to show the scope of Chinese cyberattacks. “The hackers don’t break into our servers for fun. Behind this is a methodology that targets human rights defenders and is organized on behalf of the Chinese regime. There must be complete clarity about the duration, nature and victims of the cyber attacks on Belgium,” said Cogolati.

The government should launch an investigation to determine whether sensitive or classified data has leaked into Beijing. The attacks should not remain without consequences for Cogolati either. If an attack is clearly attributable to a government agency, then it should be reported through diplomatic channels and the government behind the attack should pay for the repair costs, Cogolati says.
