The Mobile World Congress has a Belgian touch again this year. For several years, our country has had its own pavilion where companies from Flanders, Brussels and Wallonia can present themselves to the world. The Brussels start-up platform hub.brussels was also represented with its own stand at the fair this year, where we were able to get to know some up-and-coming companies from the region.
At the fair we meet Dimitri Pirnay, the founder of OneBonsai. The Leuven-based company develops training courses using virtual reality technology. “The Metaverse creates a lot of VR hype, but we’ve been working on it since 2016,” says Pirnay.
Tailored training sessions
Pirnay speaks with great passion about what his company does: “The great advantage that VR offers for training is that employees can follow the training when it best suits their agenda. We bring the training to the people and not the other way around. And that way you can also give much more direct and personal feedback.”
OneBonsai creates tailor-made training programs for organizations from different sectors. “Depending on what the customer wants to train, we can develop a bespoke simulation. We first test the simulation internally before we bring it to the customer. After that, we also support them in bringing all employees onto the platform,” says Pirnay.
Cyber Security Education
The OneBonsai training programs can be used in a number of ways. Pirnay gives a few examples: “In the medical field, training can be used to practice emergency situations such as serious car accidents or a fire, but also to improve hygiene in hospitals, for example.”
OneBonsai also offers targeted cybersecurity training. Pirnay: “On the one hand, they can serve to create more awareness of the most important cyber threats, but also to improve the behavior of employees.” The training courses provide tips on how to use passwords securely or how to recognize phishing e-mails.

training needs
During the MWC, Pirnay notes that companies want to invest in training but are looking for the most efficient way to do so. “Companies have a high need for targeted further training programs. Emergencies are often the result of human error. Sufficient employee training can significantly reduce this risk. We therefore see that companies are looking for innovative solutions to train their employees,” he concludes.
