Pure 5G coming to Brazilian iPhones with iOS 16.4

Connection 5G in terms of its maximum performance has reached some smartphones in Brazil. Users who have iPhone With version 16.4 beta iOS, we got the ability to connect 5G Standalone (SA) if you use maintenance services Alive or TIM. The technology allows the mobile network to use the maximum speed.

The emergence of this new “version” at a time when 5G has already been implemented in all capitals is due to the fact that the signal currently used more widely is non-standalone, which takes advantage of the 4G infrastructure. Systems designed for the most advanced technologies are expensive and not yet installed in the country.

According to a study carried out Ericsson, a Swedish telephone company. In more developed countries such as the US, connectivity is available starting with iOS 14.5. Since version 16.4, which only recently appeared on Brazilian iPhones, is still in beta, it is not known when everyone will be able to use it.

The main differences between 5G Standalone and 5G Non-Standalone have to do with lower latency and faster speeds. NSA, also referred to as “impure 5G”, achieves faster speeds than 4G, but does not achieve gigabyte transfer rates, as is the case with SA.

This is because there is no exclusive network in their operations, and thus, in addition to not reaching the maximum speed, they have a higher latency. However, this is often overlooked in everyday use such as social media chatting or even watching YouTube videos. Therefore, the gradual installation of 5G is not contested even with “impurities”.

5G should surpass 4G by the end of this decade

Even in the process of transition, and given the differences between its “versions”, the network is on track to become the world’s most used mobile phone. According to GSMAassociation that represents the interests of mobile operators globally, 5G is expected to surpass 4G in 2029.

The information was disclosed in a report at the opening Mobile world Congress (MVK), considered today’s biggest connectivity event, last Monday, 27. In percentage terms, 5G usage today is side by side with 3G and should distance itself over the next few years. A tie with 4G is predicted for 2028, followed by an overtake.

Correcting the numbers at the moment, 4G has about 60% of mobile network access, and 5G and 3G – from 15% to 20%. 2G remained in double digits in 2023 and will gradually decrease until it reaches an estimated 1% in 2030.

Continuation after commercial

At the end of the current decade, 5G should not only overtake 4G, but also significantly distance itself, as 54% of hits are predicted for the last year of the chart against 36% for 4G, and 3G will also remain with a single figure at 8%.

With a world population of 8.5 billion by 2030, the absolute number of 5G users would be equivalent to about 4.6 billion users.
