They propose that the rape of a child in Florida should be paid with the death penalty.

Two proposals to impose the death penalty on sex offenders against children under 12 years of age have been submitted to the Florida Congress.despite the fact that they contradict the doctrine of the US Supreme Court (EU) and the State Supreme Court, local media reported this Thursday.

Senator Jonathan Martin and Rep. Jessica Baker, both Republicans, are sponsoring bills to be discussed in committees in the legislature starting March 7.

Martin and Baker argue that child molesters “destroy innocence” and violate “every level of decency in civilized society”.

Both bills state that jurors can recommend death penalty to judge for sex offenders children under the age of 12 if eight of its 12 members voted in favour.

If there are less than eight, life imprisonment will be imposed. without the right to parole.

In Florida, a unanimous jury decision is required to hand down a death sentence, but there have been voices, including Gov. Ron DeSantis, to change the law so that a simple majority is sufficient.

Bills to remove the unanimous jury requirement are pending in both houses of Congress in Florida. which is in line with U.S. Supreme Court doctrine that does not consider child sexual abuse punishable by death.

High courts in the US and Florida have ruled against the death penalty for juvenile abusers under the age of 12 in two sentences that set precedents, as pointed out by the media reporting on the Martin and Baker projects.

On February 23, the first execution in nearly three and a half years was carried out in Florida.

The person executed was Donald Dillbeck, who at 59 was convicted of two first-degree murders, the first with a gunshot wound in 1979 when he was a minor, and the other with a knife wound in 1990.

Florida’s Catholic bishops have asked Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to pardon Dillbeck, a death penalty advocate who vowed to explore ways to extend it to child molesters.

Former US President Donald Trump has also called for the death penalty for drug traffickers.
