The Mercedes-Benz automobile company began construction of an environmentally friendly battery recycling plant in Kuppenheim, in southern Germany, on Friday.
As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by Reuters.
The pilot plant, which will have an annual capacity of 2,500 tons, will facilitate the production of more than 50,000 battery modules for new Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles.
Recycled batteries will come from test cars and starter batteries. If the pilot project is successful, production volumes can be increased in the medium and long term.
Mechanical disassembly, the first phase of the facility, is scheduled to be commissioned in December this year.
Construction of the pilot plant will be completed in a few months, subject to negotiations with the government sector.
The Kuppeheim plant is currently carbon neutral (CO2) using solar power and green electricity.
The construction of the enterprise is financed within the framework of the research project of the Federal Ministry of Economy and Climate Protection.
As reported by Ukrinform, in January this year Japanese car company Suzuki presented its new strategy, which will begin selling electric cars in Japan, Europe and India.
