The US Air Force will receive E-7 long-range radar detection and control (DRLOiU) aircraft, which will become “semi-spy planes.” Popular Mechanics columnist Kyle Mizokami talked about the capabilities of the new flying radar.

The new aircraft received a Multi-Role Electronic Scanning Array (MESA) radar station with active phased antenna arrays. The E-7 can detect sea and air targets up to 400 kilometers away. The radar is housed in a case over ten meters long.

It was noted that the E-7 was able to perform electronic intelligence tasks and collect enemy data for analysis. This information will allow tracking and jamming of enemy radar systems. E-7s can also transmit data on fighter and attack aircraft targets.

Mizokami emphasized that anti-aircraft defense aircraft are the main target in the fight against an equal enemy, since their destruction can undermine the combat capability of the Air Force. According to him, the PL-15 air-to-air missile with a range of up to 200 kilometers, developed in China, is designed to destroy anti-aircraft defense aircraft.
