Not even five months have passed since the introduction of Meta Quest Pro, its impressive virtual reality viewer. We said it then and we say it now, we’re talking about a top-of-the-line device that can certainly hold its own against Apple’s long-awaited virtual reality viewer. Just look at its technical specifications and you will see that this device has raised what we consider to be the top of its market.

Remember that Meta Quest Pro has two mini-LED screenseach with a resolution of FullHD (1920 x 1080) with a refresh rate that can reach 90 hertz, and inside we find the SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ accompanied by de 12 gigabytes of LPDDR5 RAM and 256 gigabytes of storage. But not all are virtues, beware, we must also remember that Meta estimated its autonomy between 60 and 90 minutes.

However, if anything led to lengthy conversations about the Met’s Pro Spectator, it was undoubtedly its price, from $1,499.99 in the United States, and that magically becomes €1,799.99 on the transatlantic flight. A very high price, on both coasts, that could be sustainable if the Met’s commitment to the metaverse goes well. The problem is, as you already know, the metaverse is still a mid-term project and their numbers, especially those related to the Meta, are much lower than they would like.

So as we can read in Engadget, Meta is dropping the price of the Meta Quest Pro from $1,499.99 to $999. If we go to the Meta online store now, we will still see the initial price as the drop will be applied the day after tomorrow, March 5th. The source cited is a post on Mark Zuckerberg’s Instagram feed, so the source certainly seems pretty reliable.

The reason Zuckerberg gave for this substantial price reduction is… well, what we could already imagine, help «more people are entering virtual reality«. And it makes perfect sense that he wants more people to jump in, because right now the Metaverse is still as sad and empty as it was a few months ago, and at a terrible price given the monstrous investments that have been made so far. any measure involving some growth should be more than welcome.

Of course, a price drop is only effective if potential customers perceive some value in what is being offered to them. And this is the biggest problem for Meta, because although the Meta Quest Pro is a technically superior device, the prospects for its use are not nearly so positive.
