SMEs are more volunteers for e-transformation

Elçim Sirek, General Manager of Sovos Turkey, stated that SMEs are aware of the benefits of e-transformation and drew attention to their voluntary and conscious steps in this area: even if they are not within the scope of the transition to archiving invoices and e-shipment notes, we see that they are willing to complete their e-transformation processes early. SMEs make up the majority of companies that voluntarily switch to e-documents”

Sovos, a leading global company founded to solve the complexities of digital tax transformation, provides tax compliance and tax software services to more than 16,000 corporate clients in more than 70 countries. In Turkey, more than 65 thousand Sovos customers carry out more than 2.2 million e-document transactions in cloud systems every day. According to the information of Elçim Sirek, General Manager of Sovos Turkey; Turkey is one of the countries that has achieved the digitization of taxes in the global arena in the best and fastest way and has largely completed its transformation. Sirek attributes the secret of this success to the voluntary and conscious steps of SMEs in e-transformation.

SMEs make up more than 75 of the e-transformation market

Sirek stated that the scope of e-invoice application was first introduced in 2012, e-documents and their scope has been gradually expanded, Sirek said that there are currently 11 electronic documents issued in Turkey. Of these documents, the most commonly used stand out as e-invoice, e-archive invoice, and e-ledger applications. Sirek said that more than 75 of the e-transformation market are small and medium-sized enterprises, namely SMEs, “Overall, we see that about 50 percent of e-invoices and e-archives users in Turkey are switching to e-invoices on a voluntary basis. The latest communiqué should have brought 150 thousand new taxpayers into the system by July, but about 80 thousand of them already have data in the system. This actually shows us where the voluntary transition has come.” said.

The road to operational excellence is through e-transformation

Sirek says there are many reasons that attract SMEs and make them want to take advantage of e-documents, even if they are not mandatory taxpayers, and explains these reasons as follows: “First of all, e-transformation offers companies the opportunity of efficiencies in time, cost and workforce. It is very valuable for companies to be able to continue the workflow without the complexity and costs of physical processes, and to speed up the follow-up and control of collections. Creating and archiving invoices to the end consumer is expensive and difficult. These invoices must be kept for at least 10 years. E-archive invoices, which are stored electronically and are easily accessible when desired, significantly reduce these problems. Data is always ready for audits, accessible and secure. Accounting processes are accelerated, reporting tasks are facilitated and the operational burden is lightened. Being able to manage all processes in a secure end-to-end manner significantly increases the operational efficiency of companies. In all of this, the reduction in paper consumption is not only of great importance for the costs of companies, but also for our nature and the environment.”

Forced Transition Deadline July 1, 2022

Sirek argues that digitization has become inevitable due to the pandemic and says every company wants to be a part of this trend. Everyone knows that those who cannot digitize will no longer be able to do their job over time. That is why they expect voluntary transitions to continue more and more. Sirek concludes his words as follows: “My advice to both those who switch voluntarily and to taxpayers who have to switch to e-invoice, e-archive and e-waybill as of July 1 as a result of the new regulations in the General Communiqué of the Tax Procedure Act is to good companions in the e-transformation process. When companies choose a specialized e-transformation service provider, they can confidently handle their core business without having to worry about ever-changing regulations.”
