The iPhone 15 series, which is expected to be released six months later, will not have a BOE screen model. The Chinese supplier reportedly encountered “technological problems” while producing displays for Apple this year. Quoting The Elec and Chosun Biz, DigiTimes writes that BOE is running out of time to prove it can produce the necessary OLED panels for the iPhone 15 on a large scale.

BOE was originally expected to supply LTPS OLED panels for use in the two mid-range iPhone 15s, but the company faced poor and inconsistent performance due to technological issues. Therefore, it is almost impossible to go into mass production in June 2023. DigiTimes

The report adds that LG Display and Samsung Display are likely to be the sole suppliers of OLED panels for the iPhone 15. Samsung Display is expected to produce most of these panels. This is because the supplier has higher production capacity than LG Display.

It is believed that Apple is trying to pull the BOE to reduce its reliance on Samsung Display. BOE was expected to supply 6.1-inch panels for the upcoming iPhone. BOE is also missing out on orders for OLED displays for new iPads. Reports from the supply chain indicate that Apple will launch the first iPad models with OLED displays in 2024. Samsung Display and LG Display were asked to prepare for panel production, but BOE did not receive the same request from Apple.
