AMD drivers rarely corrupt Windows PCs

After several weeks of research, AMD was able to identify the error in its Adrenalin drivers. An update is being worked on.

AMD’s Adrenalin driver package has been annoying Windows installations since mid-February. Result: Your PC crashes, after that you can reinstall Windows. According to numerous reports Twitter and ComputerBase forums, AMD was finally able to reproduce the bug.

The bug is in Adrenalin 23.2.1 for users who select the option during installation Factory settings reset check over. In some cases, the software dares to modify/delete a piece of code from the boot partition, resulting in corrupted Windows version. Luckily, it only affects a very select niche of users who experience the error, but it goes without saying that you’d rather not take the risk.

Luckily, you can easily bypass the error by not enabling this feature. AMD offers the possibility to start a clean driver installation, but you are not obliged to do so and the function is always disabled by default. If you still want to get off to a clean start, it is better to use the Driver Display Uninstaller (DDU) tool, which you can download here. It removes any traces of Nvidia, AMD or Intel during a previous driver installation and is compatible with Windows 11, 10 and 7.

According to PCWorld, AMD is currently further investigating the issue to fully understand its scope. It is therefore not yet certain whether a later update of the Adrenalin drivers will already contain the solution. Therefore, be extra careful and check the Factory settings resetOption currently not activated.
