In recent weeks, there have been various rumors about the future Nintendo Switch 2 (or at least a next-gen console with a continuity profile), however, Jeff Grubb, an expert in the field, has come up with the idea that the big N video games have a plan on the table, but that it may not be a Switch Pro or a Switch 2, but something more conservative compared to the current product.
In order not to exaggerate, here is what Jeff Grubb said about a possible future Nintendo console: “Maybe something in between, which is definitely like a real update in terms of hardware, but in terms of which Nintendo looks like they might cross the line a little bit and to make it a Super Switch that would continue the generation in a more significant way than it had since the Game Boy Color.”
In short, that the next Nintendo console would be limited to improving what the current one offers without introducing anything revolutionary. We’ll see what this translates to in the official product announcement, but the lack of risk, innovation and novelty could be something that works against the Japanese video game giant, and it could also repeat past mistakes. If these predictions come true, we may not see the inclusion of DLSS in the Switch refresh, a technology that could contribute a lot.
Is Nintendo repeating the mistakes of Wii and Wii U?
The Nintendo Switch has been a success for the company, not only for its commercial success, but also for focusing all of its efforts on a single line of consoles. Although the Switch is classified as a hybrid console, we must not forget that it has the same architecture as mobile, or at least very similar, so it can be said that Nintendo has left the desktop console market in favor of portable ones.
However, when Nintendo gets an idea working, it sometimes squeezes it until it’s completely exhausted, and by the time it reacts, it’s too late to plug back in. That was the case with the Wii U, which arrived years after the idea of the original Wii began to show clear signs of exhaustion. Granted, the lousy marketing of the Wii U didn’t help either, but it was that lousy marketing that made people see it as a Wii add-on instead of a new console, i.e. people saw it as “more of the same”. partly for this reason it did not arouse interest.
Of course, it’s not all bad news when it comes to a very consistent series because which should ensure backwards compatibility with the original switch. Everything seems to indicate that the best thing for Nintendo to do is to stay on the same path, but a lack of revolution should not be confused with a lack of evolution, especially considering the potential of DLSS.
Until the product is officially presented, it is wise to take the information that emerges with a grain of salt.
