IBM and Cohesity are collaborating to launch a new data protection platform: Storage Defender. The platform combines the functions of four different products.
With Storage Defender, companies can back up their data and restore it after a ransomware attack, for example. The platform can also restore files in minutes, which IBM and Cohesity say would take hours or days without the program.
Storage Defender includes multiple artificial intelligence features and works with different types of data storage environments. The data protection platform will be available in the second quarter of this year.
The four components of Storage Defender
The first component of Storage Defender is Cohesity’s DataProtect platform. The platform allows administrators to secure data stored on-premises and in the cloud through a centralized interface.
The platform configures these backups to restore faster than normal. A search bar allows admins to quickly jump to and restore a specific backup. Also, it is possible to get back multiple files at once.
The second component of Storage Defender is Storage Protect, a product from IBM. This tool allows backup and restore of physical file servers, virtual machines and other technological resources. According to IBM, a single server equipped with Storage Protect can manage up to 4 petabytes of data and process up to 100 terabytes of new information per day.
The other two components are not specifically aimed at protecting data. IBM FlashSystem is a collection of flash and hybrid storage arrays designed for on-premises and data center deployments. The Array Series includes an air-gap feature called FlashSystem Safeguarded-Copy, which allows organizations to create a version of their data that cannot be deleted or altered by hackers in the event of an attack.
The newest part of the new joint offering from IBM and Cohesity is Storage Fusion. Developed by IBM, this software platform can be used to manage the data of applications running on Red Hat OpenShift.
