It has been noted that on February 2, when the sun sets below the horizon, its rays illuminate the clouds. These “sun rays” are also known as twilight rays. It was the first time that “sun rays” could be seen so clearly on Mars.
“Although most Martian clouds do not rise more than 60 kilometers above the ground and are composed of water ice, the clouds in the images appear to be at higher altitudes where they are particularly cold. This means that these clouds are composed of carbon dioxide or dry ice,” he said.
They added that just like on Earth, clouds provide scientists with complex but important information for understanding weather.
“By looking at when and where clouds form, scientists can learn more about the composition and temperature of the Martian atmosphere and its winds,” JPL said. Said.
