The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) failed a second time trying to launch the H3 rocket. Unlike the first attempt, today started well and the rocket took off from the ground. However, within minutes of launch, the agency had to order the rocket to self-destruct because “there was no way to complete the mission.” The engines of the second stage of the launch vehicle did not work for some reason.

Of course the reasons are still unknown and the agency will still need to investigate. However, this is the second failure in H3. The launch vehicle was created by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, and with this rocket Japan is connecting its future in the space industry.

In addition, as part of the failed mission, the rocket was supposed to launch into orbit the DAICHI-3 (ALOS-3) satellite, designed to observe the Earth’s surface in very high resolution. Of course, the satellite was destroyed.
