Thanks to a new feature, you can now leave a WhatsApp group silently without notifying the rest.

Does your organization use WhatsApp and have you been placed in certain groups you’d rather not be associated with? You can voluntarily leave a group at any time, but once you do so, all other members will see notes that you left the group.

Extra annoying: If you want to leave a group that has been inactive for several weeks, activate a notification so that the group is back at the top. Everyone can see it, even the participants who “mute” a group because too many notifications pop up. Subtle is different.

In a new WhatsApp update earlier this year, you can now leave a group silently. Only the group admin of the group will receive a notification that you have left the group. The rest of the members don’t know anything unless they grab the attendee list and go through it.

Important side note: If you are the group manager of a WhatsApp group, you cannot leave it silently. The rule only applies to groups where you are not an administrator.

More privacy

Are you afraid that some colleagues or friends will make a problem out of it? You can further disguise your departure by disabling read receipts. For example, contacts can no longer see that you have read their message.

Note, however, that by enabling this option you will no longer be able to check whether others have read your messages. The knife cuts in both directions here.
