This Monday (6) Microsoft I am surprised to announce that Outlook Mail for Mac is now available for free on the Apple App Store. One big news is that users will no longer need a Microsoft 365 subscription or an Office license to use the platform.
Users can already enable this feature in their browser.
The app supports a wide range of IMAP-compatible email providers, including Outlook.com, Gmail, iCloud, Yahoo, and more. In addition, the application is optimized for Mac computers with Apple Silicon and allows iOS users to easily resume work started on a Mac with Handoff support.
The app also has a number of additional features such as a widget for calendar entries, built-in notification support, and a “peek” option in the menu bar that allows you to quickly view calendar entries.
The free Outlook for Mac app is available from the Mac App Store as a 974MB download. To use this device, your device must be running macOS 11 Big Sur or a newer operating system. With this requirement, Microsoft is committed to ensuring that Outlook for Mac users have access to the latest app features and a streamlined interface.
Microsoft still wants to improve the Outlook for Mac user experience and has announced that it will soon be adding a new menu bar preview option that will allow users to quickly preview calendar entries in the main app. In addition, the company plans to introduce new Outlook profiles that support Apple Focus capabilities.
Microsoft’s decision to make Outlook for Mac free is part of the company’s broader effort to improve the user experience with its email applications. This includes a rebuild of the Outlook for Windows application, which aims to combine the Windows Mail application and Outlook for Windows into one email client.
Microsoft has been testing a new version of Outlook for the web for almost a year now with the intention of integrating web functionality into its email applications and providing a richer and more unified experience for its users.
