Life By You, Paradox’s response to The Sims… and Paralives

These are interesting times for life sims, and Life By You is the latest example of that, and that this particular market has needed news that goes beyond DLC for some time. Recall that The Sims 4, a clear benchmark, came out in September 2014, so in a few months it will be nine years since then, nine years in which there have been almost no relevant announcements and launches. A long time without activity in a market with a user base so large and so willing to pay, as evidenced by EA’s DLC for The Sims.

However, movement seems to be coming, and it’s coming from several fronts, which is great news. The most relevant announcement was undoubtedly that of EA itself last October, when it first spoke about Project Rene, which, although it has not yet been officially confirmed to be called, The goal is to be The Sims 5. We’ll still have to wait a while, as the company has indicated that it’s in the early stages of development, meaning we’re talking years, not months, but at least we know they’re already working on it.

On the other hand, we have Paralyzes, announced in June 2019, but not yet released, although its developer has achieved huge support through Patreon with patrons also directly involved (with their opinions and ideas) in the development of the game. It has been featured on Steam for a while now and seems to have a more modern and attractive visual design than The Sims, although it will be really important to check all the options it offers while playing.

Well, since then, there are no two without three Rene and Paralives are now joined by Life By You, a Paradox project of which we can already see the first trailer, in which the company also calls us on March 20 for the official announcement of the game. The teaser, as we could already imagine, does not reveal much about this new game, but it does reveal enough to raise a lot of expectations, as its visuals are also very attractive.

There is also a minimum two reasons to consider Life By You from its first advance. One is that the development is led by Rod Humble, who executive produced The Sims 2 and The Sims 3. And the other is that Paradox already has experience taking EA’s greatest hits and creating new titles based on them, but greatly improved, because just it did it with Cities: Skylines, which knew how to win over the SimCity community when EA couldn’t keep up.
