YouTube is starting to test ads in its Shorts sections of short videos introduced in 2020, which are competing quite successfully with similar offerings TikTok and Instagram. According to a YouTube spokesperson, the company is testing ways to monetize videos on Shorts, increasing the service’s growing audience and the share of time spent on YouTube in general. According to nominal data, previous feedback and results from advertisers are generally encouraging.

According to Google, YouTube Shorts gets 30 billion views a day, four times more than last year. YouTube’s ad revenue rose to $6.86 billion in the first quarter, but experts had expected further growth, particularly in certain segments.

The news comes after YouTube has set up a $100 million short video fund – the company is trying to attract writers and viewers with services like TikTok on its platform. In August last year, it announced that it would pay the developers of popular videos up to $10,000 per month. At the time, the company was considering alternative monetization for writers until it developed a new way to make money for itself and content developers.

Plans to monetize authors on Shorts were also discussed in February – if possible, purchase directly on Shorts during the video’s screening to use with paid items in the Super Chat service. Implementing advertising will be just one step towards monetizing platforms. Source
