SAP launches Datasphere. This is an evolution of the SAP Data Warehouse Cloud, designed to serve as a central hub for organizations that want to bring together data from different locations and from different applications.
SAP launches SAP Datasphere. This is a solution built on top of the SAP Business Technology Platform and designed to give companies seamless access to important data. The key here is data integration, as such data is typically scattered across a variety of sources.
Datasphere runs in the cloud and can also handle hybrid environments. In principle, the solution can process all company data, no matter where it is located. On-premises investments therefore remain relevant. SAP Datasphere brings together data from SAP and non-SAP applications. In other words, with Datasphere, SAP no longer cares about where your data is, the company is still happy to work with it.
SAP itself is focused on a single source of truth from its ERP DNA, but the reality is that companies have more data at their disposal than just in SAP. Data specialists working in SAP’s analytics environment can correlate all this data with Datasphere.
The solution combines integration, cataloging, semantic modeling, data warehousing, data federation and data virtualization. SAP describes Datasphere itself as the next generation of the SAP Data Warehouse Cloud.
Of course, the intention is also to do something effective with all the data. Therefore, the new solution includes the Datasphere Analytics Model. This makes it possible to reuse semantic definitions and associations from other SAP applications. Finding and managing data would also be easier with the SAP Datasphere Catalog.
SAP is committed to the idea of a data cloud and allows customers to combine external datasets with their own business data through their SAP Datasphere Marketplace. 3,000 curated datasets are already available through this marketplace.
Datasphere further integrates with solutions from various partners. Databricks offers integration with its own Data Lakehouse platform, Collibra brings additional options in terms of governance, privacy and compliance, Confluent offers a data streaming platform and finally DataRobot brings an additional sauce of intelligence and machine learning.
Datasphere works with Iceberg, Hudi and the proprietary Delta table format. With the new solution, SAP is following a trend in the data world, in which more and more data specialists are opting for openness. By combining data from your own environment with other data, more and more relevant insights are possible. Not only SAP knows this, but also Snowflake, Cloudera and even Google with its data cloud.
SAP Datasphere is available now. Anyone who is already a customer of SAP Data Warehouse Cloud gets an automatic and immediate upgrade with no manual steps required.
