Facebook announced on Tuesday (7) that users of the social network will no longer need the Messenger app to access messages received on the platform.. The company made the app mandatory in 2014 when it removed the ability to access messages directly through the app, forcing you to download the company’s messaging software.

However, the company confirmed this week that the mandatory use of the Messenger app has been discontinued. Meta hasn’t said when the feature will be available to all users, but has confirmed that some testing is already underway. so that everything returns to what it was almost 10 years ago.

“Private conversations are a great way for people to share information and communicate across our apps. Today, over 140 billion messages are sent daily on our apps. On Instagram, people are already sharing almost 1 billion times a day through direct messages and on Facebook.

Facebook is testing messaging

While Messenger’s mandate has been the target of criticism from the community, Facebook doesn’t seem to be leaving things the way they were just to please the public. That’s because they said they’re doing a series of tests to learn a little more about social network user messaging.

This is because Facebook thinks it can be a good way for users to share new discoveries on the social network through the app’s direct message box. Thus, the termination of Messenger’s obligations will facilitate this type of exchange with other users who are also present on the platform.

Even with the expectation that the change will be permanent, given the rain of criticism that hit Facebook in 2014, all indications are that more news is coming soon. The company said it will come up with new ways to improve the integration of social media posts with the app.

“Over the next year, we will be developing new ways to integrate Facebook messaging features. Ultimately, we want to make it easy and convenient for people to connect and share, whether on the Messenger app or directly on Facebook,” the company said.
