Oppo expands the budget-friendly line-up with the A78 5G. Among other things, it offers 33 W fast charging for a price of less than 300 euros (incl. VAT).

The Oppo A78 5G is the manufacturer’s new budget device. The smartphone came onto the market at the beginning of January and has now also reached our region. The A series doesn’t have the same finery as the Find X or Reno series, but it offers decent specs at an even more decent price point. The 6.65-inch HD+ display (720 x 1612 pixels) with a refresh rate of 90 Hz is evidence of this, for example.

Under the hood we find a MediaTek Dimensity 700 processor, a common manufacturer choice for the budget line. The configuration available in Belgium is 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The memory can be expanded by up to 1 TB with an external microSD card, and the working memory can be virtually expanded up to 4 GB with RAM expansion technology.

Oppo makes fast charging its mission and the A78 5G comes with a 33W charger. That’s less spectacular than the Find X5 Pro, but you can still charge the device in a good hour. According to the manufacturer, once charged, you can make calls for 22.85 hours before the 5000 mAh battery is completely empty.

If you like taking photos with your smartphone, you can use the 50 MP main camera, which can increase the resolution to 108 MP with a clever software trick. The main camera is joined by a 2 MP depth camera for shots with a bokeh effect, although one shouldn’t expect miracles from a lens with this resolution. The same applies to the 8 MP front camera.

price and availability

The Oppo A78 5G is available from today via the manufacturer’s webshop or authorized retailers. The recommended retail price for the basic configuration (4 GB + 128 GB) is 295 euros (incl. VAT). Available color options are black or light blue. The smartphone comes with ColorOS 13 ex works.
