The Antwerp company Amadys is taken over by the French ETC. Together both companies form a new European powerhouse for telecom equipment.

Amadys and EMC today reached an agreement on the acquisition. The French ETC takes over all shares of the investment fund Equistone. Amayds management is also selling its minority stake. A sum is not mentioned, but according to calculations by De Tijd it should be around one billion dollars.

Amadys from Antwerp develops passive components for telecommunications, energy and water networks. Among other things, it develops fiber optic cables and distribution stations for the telecommunications sector. In Belgium, Amadys works with Fiberklaar and Unifiber, and thus also indirectly with Proximus, to support the fiber optic rollout in Flanders and Wallonia.

European superpower

ETC, or Euro Techno Com for short, also develops and sells supporting infrastructure for the telecommunications sector. The French group fell into the hands of an investment company called Cinven last year, which triggered a spending spree in the company. ETC has made acquisitions in Germany, Austria and Poland and is now firmly anchored in the Belgian telecommunications sector with Amadys.

Amadys itself also has clear international ambitions and sells its network equipment in the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Great Britain, Austria, Slovakia and Hungary, among others. The newly founded company can therefore call itself a true European superpower in the telecommunications infrastructure.
