Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 It will be Qualcomm’s next high-end ARM-based SoC and one that will compete, at least initially, with Apple’s A17 Bionic and M3. Since we still have a long time to wait for the official unveiling, the coming months will mainly be rumors and leaks, such as the alleged configuration it will have at the core level.
One thing that is already known is that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will almost certainly not use TSMC’s 3nm manufacturing process, as Apple has moved to monopolize all production for its A17 Bionic and M3 processors. Instead, Qualcomm’s SoC will be manufactured using a 4nm process, so there’s no reason to think it won’t be efficient once it’s tested in a real-world environment.
As regards kernel configurationQualcomm seems to be betting on one of the 1 + 5 + 2 cores instead of 1 + 2 + 2 + 3, so it is assumed that he will try to gain strength. More precisely, the expected core configuration of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will be a Cortex-X4 core that would run at 3.20 GHz in its base configuration and 3.70 or 3.75 GHz on future Samsung Galaxy S24 smartphones, five Cortex-A720 cores that would run at 3 GHz, and two Cortex-A520 cores that would work at 2 GHz.
The alleged configuration that was recently leaked would represent a significant performance improvement over multi-core. Qualcomm seems willing to make a performance leap to take on Apple, and it’s likely that Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will beat Apple’s A16 Bionic with relative comfort, but it’s important not to predict events.
Other features of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 would be supports UFS 4.1, LPDDR5 RAM up to 7,500 MHz and 5G via the integrated Snapdragon X75 modem. Added to all this would be an integrated graphics processor Adreno 750. Performance with Geekbench would mean 1,930 points in single core and 6,236 points in multi-core.
As we said before, this information comes from a leak, so it is wise to take it with a grain of salt until there is official confirmation. However, if this data were to be confirmed, Qualcomm would not only point to the rivalry it maintains with Apple, but also to strengthen its position against the rest of its rivals within the sector.
