Next-generation Apple iPad Pro tablets could become significantly more expensive. The Cupertino giant is now evaluating new prices for the upcoming tablets, according to industry sources cited by The Elec. If the iPad Pro now starts at $800 and $1,100 for the 11-inch and 13-inch models, it is claimed that the new tablets could cost $1,500 and $1,800 respectively! In other words, the growth will be 80% in the small model and 60% in the old model.

Such an incredible price increase is allegedly due at least in part to the switch to OLED displays. And the OLED panels themselves are no more expensive than what Apple is currently using. The source says that the product Apple wants will require partners (Samsung and LG) to use previously uncombined manufacturing processes to produce OLED panels of the required size.

For comparison, a 10-inch panel costs $ 100-150, and a 13-inch panel with the same parameters costs about $ 350. Admittedly, the incredible rise in panel prices is not in itself a big deal for users, and Apple’s skyrocketing prices will have to be justified in some way. But for now this is just a leak and a lot could change before the new iPads are released.
