Bing surpasses 100 million daily active users

This Thursday (9) Microsoft announced on the Bing blog that the search platform has passed the 100 million daily active users mark. The milestone was reached a month after the launch of a new Bing with a built-in AI chatbot, the company says.

Hackers managed to turn Bing’s GPT chat into a scam

According to Yusuf Mehdi, VP of Modern Life, Search and Devices at Microsoft, about a third of daily active users are people who have not used a search platform. The data shows a renewed appeal of the search engine with chatbot integration and has certainly pleased Microsoft quite well. “We see this appeal of the new Bing as a confirmation of our view that search needs to be reinvented and as a unique value proposition of combining search + answers + chat + creativity in one product,” commented Yusuf Mehdi.

The Bing Platform Increased Engagement

In addition to the increase in daily active users, Microsoft noted that the platform also sees an increase in engagement as users complete more searches. For the company, the results can be attributed to two factors: first, the introduction of the Prometheus artificial intelligence model, which makes Bing’s results more relevant. Second is the growth of the Edge browser, which is also growing with the addition of the Bing chatbot as a new feature.

Microsoft indicates that at least a third of daily users (33 million people) use AI chat daily for queries. On average, Microsoft logs three chats per session, and since the introduction of the new Bing, more than 45 million chats. In addition, in 15% of chat sessions, users use the search engine to create new content.

Apparently, Microsoft was able to offer Bing the tools it needed to compete directly with Google, thanks to investments and partnerships with OpenAI. On the other hand, Google has also already introduced its AI chatbot (called Bard) and is making several investments in the AI segment to keep itself competitive. In China, the Baidu platform is also taking similar steps, investing in artificial intelligence to revolutionize the market.
