The artillery of the Armed Forces of Ukraine may soon gain a decisive advantage over the racists. The fact is that the Allies have begun to supply high-precision M982 Excalibur shells, at least according to local media, they are part of one of the aid packages from Canada.
Given that all arms supplies to Ukraine are coordinated at the Pentagon to maximize efficiency, it is likely that Excalibur shells will be part of aid packages from other countries, especially from the United States itself, which has already allocated $ 4 billion in aid and will not go . to stop.
That is, the Armed Forces can count on a sufficient number of high-precision Excalibur shells at its disposal.
And the most proficient use of the M982 Excalibur could be the main trump card in our artillery’s arm. This projectile has an impressive range of 40 km and an error of several meters due to inertia and the guidance system of satellite navigation. The latter is very important, because for an accurate shot you only need to know the coordinates of the target and not illuminate it with a laser.
And the Armed Forces has a wide range of vehicles, from Bayraktar TB2 to counter battery radars, which have proven their ability to determine the coordinates of the target at a distance of 50 km to determine exactly where the enemy is. and radio reconnaissance.
At the same time, it is extremely important that Excalibur fire is possible from any modern NATO artillery system. These can be American howitzers M777, wheeled French CAESAR, tracked German PzH 2000 or British AS90 Braveheart, the main thing – the presence of a digital control system for projectile programming.
Excalibur is an active jet projectile, and its firing range depends on the artillery system itself. In particular, the proven range of the Excalibur shot from the M777 with a barrel length of 39 caliber is 36 kilometers. But the CAESAR with a 52-caliber barrel can fire for 46 km, and the PzH 2000 for 48 km. That is, to maximize the effectiveness of the Excalibur, first of all, it would be better to use self-propelled artillery units with a barrel length of 52 caliber. In the conditions of counter-battery combat, it will allow to gain astronomical advantage over the enemy.
To understand, the range of fire with “Msta”, one of the most popular artillery systems of the Russian army, is special shells up to 24.7 km with improved aerodynamics 3VOF45. And the special Hyacinth, created as a counter-battery device, has a range of up to 30.5 km with a similar special projectile 3VOF86.
That is, exceeding the use of Excalibur from 52-caliber artillery systems will be 16-18 km. To understand the scale of the abyss – this is the firing range of another common Soviet ACS 2C3 “Acacia”. At the same time, a critical factor in the successful use of any weapon is minimizing the time from target detection to destruction. But for this, the Armed Forces has already developed a combination of artillery, UAV and counter-battery radars in a single reconnaissance and fire circuit, which gives impressive results that the Armed Forces demonstrate every day.
Therefore, it is safe to say that the Excalibur can become a decisive factor both in counterbattery warfare and in the destruction of important targets with high-precision strikes.
