Lenovo introduces a new line of desktop workstations. They are said to be inspired by the Aston Martin DBS in their design, but fit well in a data center where they are not visible. The new interior is therefore more relevant.
Lenovo is unpacking with a major update for its desktop workstations. First and foremost, they stand out visually, with the bright red accents and the large radiator grille on the front. According to Lenovo, this is the result of combining Aston Martin’s design language with Lenovo’s. In any case, it looks impressive.
The desktop workstations are divided into three series: ThinkStation P5, ThinkStation P7 and ThinkStation PX. The P5 series can be configured with a new Intel Xeon W processor with up to 24 cores. That will probably be the Intel Xeon W-3455. You can also opt for a maximum of two Nvidia RTX A6000 GPUs. The ThinkStation P7 can handle up to one Intel Xeon w9-3495X and three GPUs.
The ThinkStation PX is the most powerful of the family and offers space for two Xeon-W chips. Which one is a bit of a mystery, as Lenovo claims these two CPUs offer a total of 120 cores. The current Intel Xeon W series has the already mentioned Xeon w9-3495X as the most powerful component, and it only has 56 cores. So Lenovo probably knows a secret that Intel hasn’t revealed yet.
Of course, all new workstations support DDR5 memory and PCIe 5. The ThinkStations fit under a desk, but also in a data center. There you can easily mount it in a rack where the ThinkStation PX 4U takes up space. The line between server and desktop is becoming much more blurred.
The new Aston Martin ThinkServer should be available from May.
